Playing pretend.
We took buddy to the speech therapist for his assesment this week. For those of you who didn't know a while back he wasn't speaking at all....I know hard to beleive!
While there the therapist explained the importance of pretend play. And it's direct relation to speech and reading skills.
The more kids prtend at younger ages the more they can use their imaginations with chapter books, therefore not losing interest in reading as they get older. As well they need to learn to pretend as a vital step to playing with other kids. There are actual steps they should be growing through in their play life.
It was pretty educational for us. seeing as with the boys we play cars and sports and balls. We do read and learn letters and colors and such but pretend... nope never though tof it.
So we stoped at Walmart and bought some pretend food for his dog Blue. Now he walks around with this plastic hamburger and just offers it to everyone.... Mommy hamburger...daddy hamburger! Is that pretending???
